Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is a commonly used organic peroxide and is widely used as an initiator in polymerization processes such as ethylene, styrene, propylene, vinyl acetate, diallyl phthalate, and isobutylene. In the curing process of unsaturated polyester, it is widely used in molding processes such as SMC, BMC, DMC pulling agents, and can also be used in two-component curing systems with higher activity such as MEPK, BPO, or TBPO. Below is a brief introduction to the production process of Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate.
Step 1: Sodium salt synthesis
1) Prepare 10% diluted alkali with ionic membrane alkali and clean water;
2) Under stirring and freezing conditions, add crude tert butyl hydrogen peroxide (commonly known as tert or crude tert) dropwise, control the temperature inside the kettle to be less than 30 degree , continue stirring for half an hour, stop stirring, and let it stand for 1 hour before separating out sodium salt for backup; The upper layer of sodium tert can be sold as a finished product after alkaline washing.
Step 2: Synthesis of crude Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate
1) Add sodium salt directly to the reactor, stir and freeze;
2) Start adding benzoyl chloride dropwise when the temperature of the reaction kettle is Less than or equal to 20 degree ;
3) Control the droplet acceleration according to the temperature of the reaction kettle, and control the temperature inside the kettle to Less than or equal to 30 degree ;
4) After dripping benzoyl chloride, continue stirring for 2 hours, stop stirring, let stand for 1 hour, and then separate the lower mother liquor for wastewater treatment; The upper layer is the crude product of Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate.
Step 3: Washing and drying
1) Start stirring and freezing, control the temperature of the entire washing and drying process to Less than or equal to 30 degree throughout the entire process;
2) Prepare a 10% dilute alkali solution and wash it in a 1:1 ratio to the crude product of tTert-butyl peroxybenzoate for 1 hour. Let it stand for 30 minutes and layer by layer. Separate the lower layer of washing alkali and dispose of the three wastes;
3) Continue to leave the crude Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate in the reactor, wash it with a 5% baking soda solution of about 1/2 ratio for 1 hour, let it stand for 30 minutes, and layer by layer. Separate the upper layer of washing solution for three waste treatment;
4) The crude product of Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is dried with about 20 kilograms of anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then filtered to obtain the finished product of Tert-butyl peroxybenzoate.
